Medical Massage
Post-CARE Instructions
1. Hydrate Well:
Drink Plenty of Water: Staying hydrated helps flush out toxins released during the massage. Aim for several extra glasses of water over the next 24 hours.
2. Rest and Relaxation:
Take it Easy: Give your body time to rest, especially if you feel a bit sore or fatigued after the massage. Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for the rest of the day to let your muscles recover.
3. Gentle Movement:
Stretch Lightly: Gentle stretching can help relieve any muscle tightness that may develop after the massage. Avoid intense stretches, focusing instead on simple, fluid movements.
4. Apply Heat or Cold as Needed:
Use Heat for Relaxation: If you feel tightness in any area, a warm bath or heating pad can relax muscles and relieve soreness.
Use Cold Compresses for Inflammation or Soreness: If there is mild swelling or tenderness in specific areas, apply a cold compress for 10–15 minutes.
5. Monitor for Potential Side Effects:
Mild Soreness or Bruising (Normal): It’s common to feel some soreness or experience slight bruising, especially if the massage involved deep tissue work. This should resolve within a day or two.
Unusual Pain or Discomfort (Alert): If you experience persistent pain, dizziness, nausea, or any unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.
6. Avoid Alcohol and Heavy Meals:
Refrain from Alcohol for 24 Hours: Alcohol can slow down recovery by increasing dehydration, so it’s best to avoid it.
Eat a Light, Nourishing Meal: Opt for a meal that is easy on your digestive system and avoid large, heavy, or greasy foods, as the massage can activate your body’s digestive processes.
7. Reflect on Pain Relief and Flexibility Changes:
Note Areas of Improvement: Many people experience increased mobility, pain relief, or relaxation after a medical massage. Track how you feel in the days following, especially if this massage is part of a therapeutic regimen.
8. Plan for Follow-Up Treatments:
Schedule Follow-Ups as Recommended: Medical massages may require consistency to achieve optimal benefits. Follow your therapist's guidance on when to return based on your treatment plan.
